HIS 2004 Includes .NET Extensions

Editors share perspectives from vendors about products, services, technologies, and industry directions.

At TechEd 2004, Charles Machalani and Paul Larson of the Microsoft Host Integration Server (HIS) team briefed me on some of HIS 2004's new features. HIS 2004 enables Windows, IBM iSeries, and mainframe host integration by providing several key functions, including terminal emulation, file transfer, and ODBC and OLE DB support.

The product's new features include the ability to expose host resources as Web services, two-way password synchronization, and a new DB2 .NET Data Provider. HIS 2004 is due for release in the second half of 2004.
