Microsoft app naming system is getting better and better. Gone are the days when product names were longer than new scientific discoveries and more creative than the latest big industry drug. Just thinking about what they might call the next version of Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager R2 use to make me cringe. But, it seems Microsoft is taking the public more into account when creating new product names. If it had stuck to its old ways, just think, you might be asking Microsoft Windows Phone Voice Recognition Manager (instead of Cortana) to monitor flights and weather.
To close the loop, the Admin of the Windows Phone suggestions page recently indicated the name and release date of the promised File Manager for Windows Phone 8.1.
The app will simply be called: Files. And, it will released in June and available for download from the Windows Phone store. Files will allow Windows Phone users to create folders, subfolders, and then allow searching of files on the devices.
The original suggestion was posed to the site way back in November of 2012, however, Windows Phone users have wanted this feature for even longer. It’ll be nice to have, matching a feature available to Android users, but, personally, I don’t believe it’s something I’ll use a lot. Still, it’s great to see Microsoft intent on continuing to improve Windows Phone’s features and offerings.
