Roomba Gets a Mopping Friend

iRobot, the company behind the robotic carpet cleaner Roomba, has announced plans to offer another robot to help keep the house clean. By the holiday season, the company will release Scooba, a new robotic floor cleaner designed for hardware floors such as linoleum, tile, and wood. Scooba will vacuum up loose particles, use a cleaning fluid to soak up dirt, and dry the floor. The use of a cleaning fluid has provided a tricky challenge for the company because most fluids are too slippery and interfere with the robot's steering system. The company teamed with Clorox to develop a new fluid that would do the trick. The Scooba is also built lower to the ground than the Roomba. We're waiting for a robot that gets us beer, does laundry, and watches the kids.
