The HP Stream line of products are some good value for users who need devices for basic tasks such as email, web browsing, word processing and light gaming.
If you own one of those devices you may be eligible for a Windows store credit.
All you have to do is visit http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/hpstream on your eligible device and follow the on-screen instructions.
According to the offers FAQ the following HP Stream devices are eligible:
- HP Stream 13 Laptop
- HP Stream 11 Laptop
- HP Stream 11 x360
- HP Stream 7 Tablet (only certain models)
I grabbed my HP Stream 7 back in February when it was offered for $79 at the Microsoft Store and it is not eligible. I am running Windows 10 on that device so it is possible that is preventing me from participating in the offer.
The person on Twitter (@vasudevg) who sent me this tip (thanks) has Windows 8.1 installed and received the credit.
There is also no additional info on the offers website to indicate what those select models of the HP Stream 7 are either however, that should not stop you from checking for yourself because there just might be a $25 credit waiting for you to purchase apps, games, movies and music.
Here is how you do it:
Visit http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/hpstream using the desktop version of Internet Explorer on your HP Stream device. Click on Get Started to continue.
Sign in with your Microsoft Account.
You may need to take the above steps to set up IE so that the Active X Control can scan your system to validate your eligibility.
Once done click Validate PC.
Enter the CAPTCHA and click Validate.
This is where the redemption process ended for me as mentioned above it is likely because I am running Windows 10.
For those of you with eligible devices you should see additional screens that will walk you through getting a code that can be redeemed in your local currency for the Windows Store.

Addendum: Thanks to our own Rod Trent who has an HP Stream 7, running Windows 8.1 by the way, we now have the screens you will see if your validation is successful:
After entering the CAPTCHA code, see screenshot above, you will get your code on screen if the validation is successful.
After redeeming your code your $25 credit is available to spend from your Microsoft Account and it must be spent within 90 days
They will even follow up with an email to make sure you get your code.

The offer is good until 31 December 2015.
I think my HP Stream 7 might just get Windows 8.1 re-installed down the road just to see if I can grab that $25 because free money for buying a device - that is not a bad deal at all.
