Although tablet PCs can run any application that's compatible with Windows XP, some vendors offer applications optimized to take advantage of tablet PC features. Here are brief descriptions of a few of those applications.

ActiveDocs for Tablet PC

Keylogix International's tablet PC application adds handwritten notes and annotated graphics to automated documents. A 21-day free trial version is available.

Alias SketchBook Pro

Alias|Wavefront's artist's drawing tool lets you use a tablet PC for sophisticated sketching or to annotate existing images. A 15-day free trial version is available.

Corel Grafigo

This freeware tablet PC—specific tool helps mobile knowledge workers turn rough sketches into precision graphics by using templates, symbols, and shape recognition. Corel expects to provide customized versions of Grafigo for vertical markets.

Groove Workspace

Groove Networks offers a mobile, secure collaboration tool with support for ink-based tablet PC chat sessions. A 90-day free trial is available.

OmniForm 5.0 and PaperPort Deluxe 8.0

ScanSoft's personal forms management software, which lets you scan in and create forms, is available at a 30 percent discount to tablet PC owners.

Tablet PC for ArcGIS

ESRI offers this set of free downloadable tools that let you use a tablet PC to acquire, display, and annotate geographic information systems (GIS) data.

TabletPlanner for Tablet PC

FranklinCovey's personal information manager (PIM) software for tablet PCs has the look and feel of a FranklinCovey planner. A free 30-day trial version is available.

WebEx Mobile Meetings

WebEx Communications' software for electronic meetings includes support for pen-based annotations and private notes. A free online demo is available.
