If you log on using the Terminal Services Client Software, the following hierarchy is used:

  • Terminal Services Profile, if specified.

  • User Profile, if specified.

  • Local Profile.

  • Terminal Services Home Directory, if specified.

  • Home Folder, if specified.

  • %SYSTEMDRIVE%Documents and Settings%UserName%.

NOTE: To use a local Home Directory when a Terminal Services Profile exists, specify a phony Terminal Services Home Directory, like \Phony Terminal Services Home Directory.

If you log onto the Console of a Terminal Server, the following hierarchy is used:

  • Terminal Services Profile is NOT used.

  • User Profile, if specified.

  • Local Profile.

  • Terminal Services Home Directory is NOT used.

  • Home Folder, if specified.

  • %SYSTEMDRIVE%Documents and Settings%UserName%.
