When you’re working on consulting projects or doing work for a variety of different customers you often don’t have any control about how the systems you work on were setup. Typically you just need to work with whatever you find. However, in some cases when you come in to setup new database or migrate old database you do get the chance to perform the initial configuration for the system. While there are really a lot of different things to configure when you first setup a SQL Server instance here are some basic settings that are best practices for almost all new SQL Server instances.
