APRIL'S PUZZLE: ON THE DOT
Two dots are marked arbitrarily on the surface of a cube. Define logically the shortest path on the cube's surface connecting the two dots.
SOLUTION TO MARCH'S PUZZLE
As a reminder, last month's puzzle asked you to trace the shapes from Figure A onto a paper with square gridlines, cut the shapes out, then use the shapes to form a T shape with the proportions that Figure B shows. Most people try the obvious approach—to create the T shape itself (emphasis on itself) by organizing the pieces in different ways. If you tried this approach, you probably couldn't come up with a solution, and for a good reason—you can't form the T shape with the desired proportions by any arrangement of the given pieces. However, if you think outside the box (literally in this case), you can form the rectangle surrounding the T shape, as Figure C shows.
