Goodbye is the hardest part: SQL Server 2005 hits end of life tomorrow

Microsoft hoping that laggards are ready to upgrade

In case you hit snooze one too many times on your upgrade plans, tomorrow is the day: SQL Server 2005 officially becomes unsupported, with Microsoft no longer delivering security and stability fixes. Even the classics must eventually be rolled out to pasture.

The change shouldn't come as a surprise: Microsoft has been marketing the date for 18 months, with a big push last year to get customers to upgrade, and it's collected a number of resources on how to successfully navigate the upgrade.

If you've recently made the jump — or are planning to keep SQL Server 2005 running despite the End of Life — I'd love to hear how it's going. Email me at [email protected], or as always find us on Twitter.
