IaaS talking to PaaS in Azure network traffic

Q. If I have an IaaS VM talking to a PaaS SQL database does the traffic flow through the Microsoft network?

A. Yes. When IaaS VMs use PaaS services in Azure the connectivity to those services flows through the Microsoft network and not out via the Internet.
