When I access a certain Web site, why does it seem to be a Microsoft site when it isn't?

A. Generally, you read a Web URL from left to right. Thus, http://www.microsoft.com@[email protected] seems to be a page on Microsoft's site although it's the Windows 2000 FAQ home page. The browser actually reads from right to left up to the first at symbol (@) it encounters, so the only part of the URL the browser uses is www.windows2000faq.com! Keep an eye on the URLs you access because some sites use this technique to mislead you.
