UNC Identifies Network Resources

Windows NT networks use the Uniform Naming Convention (UNC) notation system to identify shared resources. A typical UNC name on an NT network is \\computer\share where computer is the NetBIOS name of the NT client and share is the name of the directory or printer that network users are sharing.

NetWare uses a different notation system, but when you install a NetWare client on an NT machine, NT uses the same type of UNC name to refer to NetWare resources. NT uses the format \\server\volume or \\server\queue, where server refers to the NetWare server hosting the resource and volume or queue is the name of a file or print resource on that server.
