TechEd IT Professionals 2008 Day 1

TechEd Deja Vu

It’s with some relief and not just a little bit of déjà vu that TechEd IT Professionals kicked off with this week. At 9500 attendees and a pretty full keynote TechEd IT Professionals 2008 was a lot more like your regular TechEd than last week’s smaller developer oriented show.  This week is packed with sessions that you would come to expect from TechEd including lots of Windows Server 2008, SharePoint, SQL Server 2008, and Exchange 2007. This year’s TechEd also featured a full virtualization track with sessions on Hyper-V and SoftGrid.

News on the code front was that Hyper-V will be RTMed by August.  The beta for System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 is also available and it allows the management of both Hyper-V and VMware’s ESX Server. Of note was that SCVMM 2008 even supports VMware’s VMotion for ESX Servers. The expected new SQL Server 2008 RC0 is also available here. Other news about products that don’t really interest me included new betas for Identity Lifecycle Manager 2 and Forefront Security for Office Communications Server.

This week's TechEd promises to be full of great information for IT Pros.
