Surface 3 pre-orders ship on 5 May and will not arrive on release day

For those of you who have pre-ordered the latest addition to the Microsoft Surface line of hardware you will most likely have to wait a day or two beyond the May 5th release date to get your new hardware in hand.

As many of you already know Surface 3 was announced a couple of weeks ago and went to immediate pre-order status through the Microsoft Store.

Although it is not a standard, many companies will ship products to land on your doorstep on their actual release date.  It is a great incentive actually to get customers to commit to the purchase well in advance instead of depending on stock in physical stores to handle the demand.

Today I asked a Microsoft Store customer support representative in chat what status the Surface 3 would be shipping under and if it would arrive on its actual release day or later.

Unfortunately, the representative informed me that Surface 3 pre-orders would be hitting the delivery pipeline on the 5th of May and not earlier. This is the same day that Surface 3 will also be available in retail stores such as the Microsoft Store and Best Buy.

Of course the arrival of your device after the 5th of May is dependent upon many factors such as the shipping warehouse location and the speed of delivery you selected (overnight or standard for instance).

Did you pre-order a Surface 3? if so, what did you choose?

I selected the 4GB/128GB Model with a dark blue Surface Type Cover and dark blue Surface Pen. I have been waiting for the right upgrade to move up from my trusty Surface 2 and the Surface 3 looks to be exactly what I was looking for.
