Nintendo Is Number 1 in Japan

Say what you will about struggling game-maker Nintendo, but the company still has a huge fan base at home. In the year ending March 31, Nintendo was the number-one video game maker in Japan, selling 6.5 million Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo GameBoy Advance software titles. Square Enix came in second, selling almost 4 million titles. Nintendo plans to keep the good news coming in 2004 with the release of its controversial new handheld system (code-named Nintendo DS), which will reportedly feature dual screens and ship alongside at least 30 game titles. Nintendo will launch the Nintendo DS next month at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Exposition (E3) in Las Vegas, Nevada
