A report published this week by Channelnomics indicates that Microsoft will announce a very large voluntary recall of power cords for the companies Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 tablet devices.
The recall is expected to apply across all Surface Pro devices that were built prior to 15 July 2015.
The report from Channelnomics has the following statement from a Microsoft spokesperson:
"As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord. We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly."
I suspect the return process will be handled through Microsoft's Surface support website where replacement accessories are already available for customers.
According to Channelnomics a full statement is expected from Microsoft sometime on Friday and will include all the details for customers to request their replacement power cords.
The big unknown is exactly how many devices are affected by this recall as Microsoft has never revealed exact sales numbers for their Surface line of hardware.
Have any of you with these Surface Pro devices noticed any issues with your power cords up to this point?
