JSI Tip 9538. A BizTalk Server Host instance fails under heavy load on Windows Server 2003 SP1?

Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows Server 2003 implemented a feature to detect and prevent denial of service (DOS) attacks.

When under heavy load, like when a BizTalk Server processes a high volume of documents, the TCP/IP protocol may incorrectly determine that the high volume of concurrent connections is a denial of service attack, causing Application event IDs 6913 and 5410 to be recorded.

To resolve this issue, turn off the denial of service detection on the Windows Server 2003 SP1 computer that runs the SQL Server that hosts the BizTalK Server databases:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type the following command and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters /V SynAttackProtect /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0

3. Shutdown and restart your server.
