JSI Tip 9457. Your Windows XP computer runs slowly and you may receive Dumprep.exe error messages?

The subject behavior is indicative of damaged registry entries, or hardware issues.

NOTE: Dumprep.exe is a Windows XP fault logging program that writes serious errors to a file, and prompts you to send the information to Microsoft. It is NOT essential to the operation of Windows XP.

To prevent Dumprep.exe from running:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type the following command and press Enter.

REG DELETE HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /V Dumprep /F
NOTE: If Dumprep.exe is NOT configured to start, you will receive:

Error: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value

3. Shutdown and restart your Windows XP computer.
