JSI Tip 7935. Windows XP reports an error about a 3D screen saver when you change the display configuration?

When you use a 3rd-party utility that permits you to change the display resolution, or color depth, on your computer, without using the Display Properties dialog, you may receive the following error if you are previewing a 3D screen saver:

There was an unspecified problem with this screen saver.

Direct 3D Screen Saver has encountered a problem and needs to close.

This behavior occurs because the standard Windows XP 3D screen savers are not programmed to respond correctly to changes in display configuration.

To workaround this behavior, close the Display Properties dialog before you use the 3rd-party display configuration utility.
