On Windows XP with Service Pack 1 installed, it takes a very long time to write data to an external storage device, such as a USB flash card, or Magneto-Optical (MO) drive.
This behavior only affects Windows XP with SP1 installed, and should be corrected in the next service pack.
To workaround this behavior:
1. Start / Run / Devmgmt.msc / OK.
2. Expand Disk Drives.
3. Right-click your external storage device and press Properties.
4. Select the Policies tab.
5. Check the Optimize for quick removal box and press OK.
