JSI Tip 7697. When you install a Windows XP hotfix, some temporary files are NOT deleted?

The subject problem occurs under the following conditions:

• SP1 (Service Pack 1) is installed.

• Windows XP is installed on a multi-processor computer.

NOTE: This problem is most likely to occur if you have fast processors installed on your computer.

To prevent this behavior:

1. Download the hotfix package(s).

2. Open a CMD.EXE prompt.

3. Type the hotfix file name, followed by a space and -x, to extract the files to a 'distribution folder or share'.

4. Install the hotfix by running:

'distribution folder or share'\hofix_sub_folder\update\update.exe \[switches\]
