Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 256644 contains the following summary:

When you configure and enable remote access using the Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access option, five choices appear through the wizard. The wizard configures your computer based on your selection, and may change the following items:

Port filters
Number of available Virtual Private Networking (VPN) interfaces
Router properties (local area network (LAN) routing only and/or LAN and demand-dial routing)
Remote Access Server
Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) or Network Address Translation (NAT)
