Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 310123 contains the following INTRODUCTION:

This article lists the error codes that Device Manager may report and provides resolutions. To view the error codes, follow these steps:

1.	Click Start , and then click Control Panel .
2.	Click Performance and Maintenance , and then click System .
3.	Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager .
4.	Double-click a device type (for example, double-click Modems ) to see the devices in that category.
5.	Double-click a device to view its properties. If an error code has been generated, the code appears in the Device Status box on the General tab.
