JSI Tip 6625. The last word on 'Failed to install catalog files' when applying a Windows 2000 Service Pack?

I first discussed this error message at 'Failed to install catalog files' when applying Windows 2000 Service Pack 1?

I next wrote More on 'Failed to install catalog files' when applying a Windows 2000 Service Pack.

Hopefully, the last reason is a corrupted %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\CatRoot\\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE\}\NT5INF.CAT file.

If the above fixes don't resolve your problem:

1. Open a CMD prompt and Expand the NT5INF.CA_ file from your latest Service Pack to %SystemDrive%\NT5INF.CAT.

NOTE: You may have to run ServicePackExeFileName.exe /x to retrieve the file.

2. Boot the Recovery Console.

3. Copy the NT5INF.CAT file to %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\CatRoot\\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE\}\NT5INF.CAT and %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dllcache\nt5inf.cat.

4. Restart normally.

5. Install the latest Service Pack.

6. Delete %SystemDrive%\NT5INF.CAT.
