JSI Tip 5976. How do I add icons to 'My Computer' for 'Administrative Tools', 'Printers and Faxes', and 'Scheduled Tasks' in Windows XP?

To add icons to My Computer for Administrative Tools, Printers and Faxes, and Scheduled Tasks:

1. Copy / Paste the following to a MCIAPS.reg file. You may omit any key/value that you do not want to add:

REGEDIT4

\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\\{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D\}\]
@="Printers and Faxes"

\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\\{D20EA4E1-3957-11D2-A40B-0C5020524153\}\]
@="Administrative Tools"

\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF\}\]
@="Scheduled Tasks"

2. Merge the MCIAPS.reg file with the registry or run regedit /s MCIAPS.reg.

NOTE: To effect all users, substitute HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE for KEY_CURRENT_USER. This will require a restart.

NOTE: To add a Network Connections icon, see tip 5995.

NOTE: To add a Fonts folder icon, see tip 5996.
