JSI Tip 5958. How can I alter the initial warning that Windows Messenger displays?

Windows Messenger displays:

Never give out your password or credit card number in an instant message conversation

when you start a new session.

To alter this message:

1. Use the Registry Editor to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService\Policies.

2. Add an IMWarning Value Name, as a string (REG_SZ) data type, and set the data value to the warning message you desire.

3. Press OK.

4. Exit the Registry Editor.

5. You may have to restart your computer for this setting to take effect.
