JSI Tip 5046. How do I prevent everyone, including administrators, from upgrading to dynamic disks?

To prevent anyone from upgrading basic disks to dynamic disks in your domain, you must set the DockingState Value Name, a REG_DWORD data type, to 1, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\IDConfigDB\CurrentDockInfo, for your Windows 2000 and Windows XP clients.

Use Workstation.bat to run the following batch file:

@echo off
if /i "%OS%" NEQ "Windows_NT" goto :EOF
for /f "Tokens=5 Delims=. " %%v in ('ver') do if "%%v" LSS "5" goto :EOF
@echo REGEDIT4>"%TEMP%\ds.reg"
@echo \[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\IDConfigDB\CurrentDockInfo\]>>"%TEMP%\ds.reg"
@echo "DockingState"=dword:00000001>>"%TEMP%\ds.reg"
regedit /s "%TEMP%\ds.reg"
del /q "%TEMP%\ds.reg"
