JSI Tip 4267. When you start your computer, you receive 'NTDetect Failed'?

When you start your Windows NT 4.0 / Windows 2000 / Windows XP computer, the boot process fails with:

NTDetect Failed

NOTE: Windows XP will restart immediately.

This can be caused by a missing or corrupt Ntdetect.com.

If you have a boot floppy, you can use it to start the computer and copy the file from another computer or the CD-ROM.

Windows NT 4.0

Perform an Repair, selecting select Inspect Startup Environment.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP

1. Start the computer from the Windows 2000 or Windows XP CD-ROM.

2. Select R at the Welcome to Setup screen.

3. Select Manual Repair.

4. Select only Startup Environment.
