JSI Tip 3944. How can I manually re-create a WINS database?

To re-create a damaged Windows NT 4.0 WINS database:

1. Control Panel / Services / Windows Internet Name Service / Stop.

2. Create a folder named WINS_OLD.

3. Move the contents of the %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS folder to WINS_OLD.

4. Control Panel / Services / Windows Internet Name Service / Start.

5. If everything is ok, delete WINS_OLD.

To re-create a damaged Windows 2000 WINS database:

1. Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services / Windows Internet Name Service / Stop.

2. Create a folder named WINS_OLD.

3. Move the contents of the %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS folder to WINS_OLD.

4. Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services / Windows Internet Name Service / Start.

5. If everything is ok, delete WINS_OLD.
