JSI Tip 3119. How do I perform an Emergency Shutdown in Windows 2000?

If you need to shutdown quickly and/or prevent any current information from being saved when you shutdown, and/or your system won't perform a normal shutdown, you can try using an Emergency Shutdown.

NOTE: This procedure is less harmful than turning off the power, but should only be used in emergency situations.

To perform an Emergency Shutdown:

2. When the Logon Information screen is displayed, hold down the CTRL key and press the Shut Down button.

3. You will receive:

If you continue, your machine will reboot and any unsaved data will be lost. Use this only as a last resort.

4. Press OK.

NOTE: This does NOT post a Dirty shutdown event.
