JSI Tip 3017. Updating your Windows 2000 Server after a BIOS update may mishandle your NIC?

If you update your Windows 2000 Server's BIOS to a ACPI BIOS, and then perform an update install of Windows 2000 Server, your NIC may be listed as adapter <name#2>? It does not have any settings configured.

If you attempt to configure adapter <name#2>, you receive a message that the IP address is in use by adapter <name#1>? When you check Device Manager, adapter <name#1> does not exist?

To resolve the problem:

1. In Device Manager, press View and Show Hidden Devices.

2. Right click the old NIC and press Unistall.
