If your install fails on Setup Disk 1, it is probably hardware.
To determine where:
1. Make a copy of the Setup Disk 1.
2. Copy <CD-ROM:>\SUPPORT\DEBUG\I386\NTDETECT.CHK to A:\NTDETECT.COM
3. Install using the modified Setup Disk 1. The debug version of NTDETECT should let you identify the problem hardware.
