JSI Tip 0633 - How do I keep my development IIS from broadcasting its' availability on the network?

You can disable the SAP boradcast by editing:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\<ServiceName>\Parameters

and setting EnableSvcLoc, a type REG_DWORD to 0. The default is 1.

<ServiceName> is:

MSFTPSVC, GOPHERSVC, and W3SVC.
