IFA 2014: Toshiba's PCs and Tablets

A few interesting firsts here

Toshiba has emerged as one of the big stories from IFA 2014, thanks to its budget-busting $120 Windows mini-tablet, the Encore mini. But Toshiba also made some other interesting announcements at the show, including some interesting 2-in-1 PCs. Here's what Toshiba announced this week at IFA.

Encore mini

The clear star of IFA is a mighty-mite in more ways than one. This 7-inch Windows 8.1-based mini-tablet retails for just $119.99, and it's available now from Toshiba's web site (but will ship later this month).

But it also busts through some other low-end barriers with an Intel Atom Z3735G processor, 1024 x 600 LED screen, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage, new minimums allowed by Windows 8.1 with Update 1. I'm most curious to see how this tablet performs.

Satellite Radius 11

Toshiba's first 11.6-inch convertible laptop, the Radius 11 features a "gear type" 360 degree hinge that provides five different usage modes: laptop, tablet, audience, presentation and tabletop. It comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing and one year of free Office 365 Personal, and features a 11.6-inch multi-touch display at 1366 x 768 with 10 touch points, 2 GB of RAM, 500 GB of HDD storage, one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port, HDMI out, and a SD/SDHC media card reader.

Satellite CL10-B

Described as a compact laptop, this device comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing and one year of free Office 365 Personal. It features a 11.6-inch multi-touch display at 1366 x 768, and with 10 touch points, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of eMMC storage, one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port, HDMI out, and a SD/SDHC media card reader.

Satellite Pro R50-B

This small business offering is meat and potatoes all the way with a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 display, 4th generation Intel Core i5 processor, up to 8 GB of RAM and a 500 GB or 1 TB hard drive. It has two USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, and an SD card slot, and it's available now in Europe.

I'm still looking for pricing information for most of these devices.
