How do I enable machines to use a computer with Internet Connection Sharing?

A. You enable machines to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) the same way you enable them to use DHCP and a proxy server. To enable DHCP, perform the following steps:

  1. Right-click My Network Places or start the Control Panel Network applet (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network).
  2. Right-click the LAN connection (e.g., Local Area Connection), and select Properties.
  3. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.
  4. On the General tab, select "Obtain an IP address automatically."

  5. Click here to view image

  6. Click OK.

To enable a proxy server (for Internet Explorer—IE), perform the following steps:

  1. Start IE.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  3. Select the Connections tab.
  4. Click LAN Settings.
  5. Select Automatically detect settings, and click OK.
  6. Click OK to close the main dialog box.

You should now be able to use ICS from this machine.
