How can set the primary DNS suffix in Windows 2000?

A. In Windows NT 4.0 you set the primary DNS suffix using the domain field in the DNS tab of TCP/IP properties.

In Windows 2000 this is performed as follows:

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  2. Select the Network tab
  3. Click the Properties button
  4. Click the More button
  5. Enter the Primary DNS suffix and click OK
  6. Click OK to the prompt informing you will need to reboot the computer
  7. Close all dialogs
  8. Reboot the computer

This is very important on domain controllers before configuring DNS as without this configured the created DNS records will not have the fully qualified host name.
