How can I disable the Start menu program scroll?

A. In Windows 2000, the Start menu will scroll the content if more entries exist than can fit in a single column. In Windows NT 4.0, the Start menu uses multiple columns as needed. You can configure Win2K to use NT 4.0’s multiple column method. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
  2. Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
  3. Double-click StartMenuScrollPrograms, and enter NO in the text box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close the registry editor.
  6. Reboot the computer.

You can also perform the following steps to make the change:

  1. Select Start, Settings, Taskbar, then Start Menu Programs.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Unselect Scroll the programs menu, and click OK.
