How can I configure event-log wrapping in Windows 2000?

A. When you start Windows 2000, you might receive warnings about log x being full. To action these requests and set log options, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs, Administrative Tools, then the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Computer Management snap-in.
  2. Expand System Tools, and select Event Viewer.
  3. Right-click the relevant log (i.e., Application), and select Properties.
  4. Set the log size, and the overwrite option that you want. Selecting Overwrite events as needed might be the easiest option to manage, but it leaves you exposed from an auditing perspective.
  5. Click Apply, then OK.

You’ll notice that when you right-click the event log, you can also use the relevant context menu option to clear its contents.
