Get $150 towards Surface 3 by trading in Surface RT or Surface 2

Get $150 towards Surface 3 by trading in Surface RT or Surface 2

Update: Microsoft has confirmed that this trade in offer is also available in their brick and mortar store locations.

As I reported earlier today Microsoft's Surface 3 is now available at retail stores and online.

The newest member of the Surface family is a full Windows machine capable of running any software that is available for Windows as well as those apps in the Windows Store.

There are likely some of you out there, like myself, who purchased the Surface RT or maybe the Surface 2 and would like to upgrade to Surface 3.

Performance wise that would be a great upgrade from those devices and now Microsoft is offering a way for you to get a little credit for those Surfaces and then apply it towards the purchase of a new Surface 3.

A new trade in program, which runs from today until 31 May 2015, will give you that opportunity.

In order to start the trade in process visit and then select your device. There are some questions to answer and then you will be given the trade in value and further instructions for sending in your device and accessories. The amount you will receive in trade in value will be finalized once they receive and examine the device.

You will then receive a redemption code you can use online at the Microsoft Store to purchase your Surface 3. That code will not expire until 30 June 2015.

Before you ask - there is a limit of one trade in per Surface 3 purchase - no stacking of your trade in value.

For more details here is the offers small print:

Valid 5/5/2015 until 5/31/2015. Available on Microsoft online store in US (including Puerto Rico). Not valid online in Canada. Exclusions may apply. To receive full store credit towards the purchase of a new Surface 3, customer must trade-in qualifying device subject to these terms. To be eligible for trade-in, product must power on battery must hold charge and not be required to be plugged in to operate, and be in fully functional, working condition without broken/missing components, cracked display/housing, liquid damage, modification(s) or have device warranty seal broken to be considered working. Cannot be password protected, and include original chargers/accessories. Any appraised value will be determined at trade-in and provided as a Microsoft online store redemption code and is valid online only. The online redemption code will be sent via email once CExchange receives and appraises your trade in. The redemption code will be valid until 6/30/2015. All trade-ins are subject to Microsoft's discretion and approval. All trade-ins are final. Recycle for Rewards program provided by CExchange, LLC., and other terms and conditions may apply. Not valid on prior orders or purchases; cannot be transferred or otherwise redeemed for cash or gift cards. May not be combinable with other offers. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Microsoft reserves the right to modify or discontinue offers at any time. Limit 1 trade-in per new Surface 3 purchase per customer.

My Surface 2 would garner the maximum trade in value of $150 while my wife's Surface RT would be eligible for $100. If you happen to have the Surface 2 with 4G then it would be worth the maximum of $150.  Of course these numbers are based on trading in fully functioning devices, type covers and power supplies.

Is an offer like this enough to prompt you to do the upgrade to Surface 3?
