ElcomSoft's Proactive Password Auditor Now Supports DEP, Vista, and More

ElcomSoft released Proactive Password Auditor 1.7. The new version works on systems that use Data Execution Prevention (DEP) and supports Windows Vista platforms. Other improvements in the new version include a "Rainbow Attack" mode for NT LAN Manager (NTLM) and LM authentication, and full Unicode compliance.

The Rainbow Attack mode allows administrators to create precomputed hash tables (sometimes referred to as rainbow tables) that can significantly reduce the amount of time required to discover the clear-text version of a password. The new Unicode support means that the program can work with usernames and passwords in all the Asian languages.

In addition to Windows Vista, Proactive Password Auditor runs on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Pricing for the product starts at $299 for the ability to audit up to 200 user accounts.
