Adding styles to a template

Styles are defined, by default, in a document. Styles are document-specific. Therefore, if you want a style to be available in the future, you need to create the style when you create a template, or add the style to the template later.

  1. In the Styles and Formatting task pane, click the drop-down arrow next to the style and choose Modify.
  2. Select the Add to Template checkbox.
  3. Click OK.

The current definition of the style is added to the template on which the current document is based.

When you make a change to a style, that change is not propagated to the template. In other words, the template is not automatically updated. So if you make a change to the style, and want that change made to the style in the template as well, you need to repeat the process above and choose Add to Template again.
