NEWS: Apple iTunes Europe Blockbuster First Week

Apple Computer's newly launched iTunes Music Store in Europe is off to a remarkable start with reported sales of more than 800,000 songs in its first week of operation. The service, which is available in France, Germany, and the UK, is seeing the most popularity in the UK with more than half of the downloads coming from that country. The iTunes Music Store offers a library of more than 700,000 songs available for download at .99 euros in France and Germany and 79 pence in the UK. The company already claims to be outselling its competitors by more than 16 times, but time will tell whether the European nations will continue to embrace Apple's offerings. The iTunes Music Store isn't the first online music store in Europe, but it's the first to support Apple's popular iPod music device
