JSI Tip 1452. Do your Macintosh Windows NT Server clients appear to hang when searching a SFM volume?

With CatSearch enabled, Macintosh clients ask the Windows NT Server to do the search of the Macintosh volume. If the server is busy, or there are a very large number of folders/files on the SFM volume, the client will appear to hang.

To resolve the problem:

1. Install SP5.

2. Use Regedt32, on the Windows NT Server, to navigate to:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MacFile\Parameters\Volumes

Select the volume you want CatSearch disabled on.
Double-click this volume and in the Multi-String Editor,
      add DisableCatsearch=1.
      Click OK.

3. Repeat Step 2 for additional volumes.

4. Stop and Start Services for Macintosh.
