Microsoft Band for Skydivers

Microsoft Band for Skydivers

The Microsoft Band hits just keep coming. Yesterday, I caught evidence of a company using Microsoft Band for self-checkouts at retail stores and then today I caught something equally amazing.

David Vescovi, a Microsoft MVP, has been working with the new barometric pressure transducer in the Microsoft Band 2. David is a skydiver and wanted to see if he could develop a solution that would push atmospheric pressure readings, which David says are remarkably accurate, to his Microsoft Band display.

The result is a proof-of-concept solution (with Microsoft Band tile) that can do things like show altitude and even deliver a vibration notification for when it’s time to pull the ripcord.

Neat stuff!

David has published the code to his github page and lays out all his calculations here:  Microsoft Band Altimeter Now for something completely different
