Microsoft Broadens Workload Support for Azure Site Recovery

Microsoft has introduced the general availability of heterogeneous workload support for Azure Site Recovery.      

Microsoft has introduced the general availability of heterogeneous workload support for Azure Site Recovery.

According to Mike Schutz, general manager, cloud platform marketing, the new capabilities are designed to make recovery, cloud migration and management of multiple environments easier. Built on technology Microsoft acquired from business continuity provider InMage, Azure Site Recovery works with environments including Amazon Web Services and VMware. Azure Site Recovery  provides AWS-to-Azure migration and support for recovery in Azure for VMWare and physical servers, bolstering existing support for Hyper-V workloads.

"This now enables you to use a secondary site, private cloud or Azure as your disaster recovery site within one Microsoft solution," wrote Schutz in a blog post. "Extending and protecting VMware workloads into Azure is an easy, automated process and works seamlessly with your existing infrastructure."

Part of Microsoft's Availability on Demand platform, Azure Site Recovery will also be available to Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS) customers, and Microsoft has announced an add-on for System Center customers to more easily take advantage of OMS "at one low cost," noted Schutz.

The Azure Site Recovery announcement is one of several made today related to the Azure platform. Today also marks the start of the AWS Summit 2015 in New York.
