Finding Online Help

The added functionality in Visio 2000 comes with added complexity, and the absence of comprehensive documentation for data and database modeling increases user frustration. I've listed a few Web-based Help sites below that provide more information about how to use the product.

To better understand the four Visio editions and their respective features, see the Interactive Reviewer's Guide at http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/guides/visio. This Web site is informative, well-organized, and easy to navigate.

The Visio Tips & Tricks site at http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/visio/tips/vistips.asp describes how to perform various tasks in the Visio workspace, such as applying color to shapes, flowing text on lines, and adding a background design.

On the Visio product updates page (http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/visio/downloadcatalog/dldvisio.asp), you can download Service Release 1 (SR1), a minor update that provides improvements such as tighter integration with the Windows look and feel.

To find out what's happening in the newsgroups, see the Visio forums at microsoft.public.visio.

If you're interested in taking a Visio class, Microsoft offers course 1935, Building Solutions with Microsoft Visio 2000. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/trainingandservices/default.asp, and click Training, Find Training. On the Find Training & Resources screen, choose VB Application Development, Developer, Instructor Led, English, then click Submit.
