INTRODUCTION

Issue that the hotfix package fixes
This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You try to search for a multibyte character set (MBCS) word in a document in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services document library. If the Indexing Service in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 has indexed the MBCS word, the word is not found.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

• The document contains a picture.
• The picture is followed by sentences, not merely one word.
• The picture is not preceded by words or a single paragraph in the document.
Note In the original release version of Windows Server 2003, the search finds the MBCS word as expected if there is more than one paragraph or more than one word before the picture. In Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), the search does not find the MBCS word if there is more than one paragraph or more than one word before the picture.
