Multiple Biometric Products Introduced at RSA

Unisys debuted a tool that associates a user's network rights with their verifiable biometrics, and Feitian wants user fingerprints for for authentication, physical access, identification, payment, and access to applications or data.

Unisys today announced Stealth(Identity), vendor-agnostic biometric identity management software for establishing trusted human identities. The solution is aimed at large-scale biometric enrollment processing for fingerprint, face, voice and iris recognition, as well as behavioral biometrics.

The software automates and simplifies the process of associating information from an individual, like a user id, with a biometric. For example, it can connect biometric data of any type from a reader with the identity information of a user. This then enables security personnel to more easily and quickly validate the user.

Features include automated enrollment, configurable authentication workflows and APIs to allow integration of biometric authentication across physical and digital channels, and a mobile-ready biometric app.

“It’s really hard to actually get user id associated with identity, because that’s not automatically happening, so we’ve focused on finding a way to associate information from databases with biometric data,” explained Jonathan Goldberger, vice president of security solutions. “It’s even harder when you understand that people have so many different identities. In a network, for example, you want to associate it with the user’s rights and permissions on that network to various applications, for example.”

Unisys also introduced a new version of Unisys Stealth(identity) at RSA. The new version combines multiple biometric modality scores, including different types of biometrics, to provide a higher level of assurance that a person is unique and who they claim to be. The vendor-agnostic solution works by collecting multiple biometric samples, along with verifying identity documents, then using that information to verify identity enrollment and process verification requests.

Biometric authorization and payment technology company Feitian Technologies also introduced a new biometrics solution at RSA. The Fingerprint Power Card combines technologies for authentication, physical access, identification, payment, and access to applications or data.

The card also can be used as a regular credit card with biometrics and FIDO (or FIDO2) for authentication.

The fingerprint data is enrolled by the card via a desktop or mobile application and stored cryptographically within the secure element of the card. It connects via RFID or NFC which means it is only “running” when it is being used with a card reader. That means that it can’t be randomly scanned to have its data stolen, according to vice president Tibi Zhang.

Zhang said there are three basic ways companies use the card: to increase the security of an existing card system, to combine multiple access devices into one card, or for payment card issuers to provide a better user experience.

Also at RSA, ImageWare Systems introduced the ImageWare Digital Identity Platform, a comprehensive digital biometric identity proofing, authentication and lifecycle management solution.
