How To Insert the Indian Rupee Symbol in Microsoft Word

To type of Indian rupee symbol when using Microsoft Word on a PC, hold down the Alt key and type the numbers 8377 on the numeric keypad. 

Alternatively, type and then highlight the alphanumeric combination 20B9. Holding down Alt and the letter x will replace this code with the rupee symbol.

Lastly, if you plan on using the rupee symbol multiple times in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect options to automatically replace a word (such as “rupee”) with the symbol.

First, find Emoji & Symbols under the Edit menu. Expand the window by clicking on the top-right browser icon. From the left sidebar, select the “Currency Symbols” tab. Double-click the rupee symbol or highlight and drag the symbol into your document. 

How to Insert the Indian Rupee Symbol on a Mobile Device

Inserting the Indian rupee symbol into a document or message is just as easy to do from the keyboard of an iOS or Android device.  

On an iPhone, change the settings of your keyboard to include English (Indian) options. Under Settings, tap General, then Keyboards. From here, you can “Add New Keyboard.” Now open the application where you would like to type the Indian rupee sign. On the keyboard, tap “123.” Holding down the dollar symbol ($) will reveal the Indian rupee symbol.

An easy way to type the Indian rupee symbol on an Android device is to download Gboard, the Google Keyboard. Open the application where you would like to type the Indian rupee symbol. Select the globe icon to change your keyboard to English (India). Now you can find the Indian rupee symbol by tapping on the “123” button.
