There are several possible routes to take for inserting an arrow symbol in a Microsoft Word document, on a Mac, and on iOS or Android devices. Learn each easy method below. 

How To Insert an Arrow Symbol in Microsoft Word

When using Microsoft Word on a PC, using keyboard shortcuts is the fastest way to insert the arrow symbol. First, hold down the Alt key. For a left-facing arrow, type the number 27. A right arrow can be inserted by typing the number 26. Type the number 24 for an up arrow, or 25 for a down arrow.

Microsoft Word’s Advanced Symbols library is another place to find arrow symbols. You can access the Advanced Symbols library under the Insert tab. Once you access the library, double-click the arrow symbol you wish to include in your document.

Alternatively, you can use Unicode to type a variety of different arrow symbols.

Lastly, if you plan on using the paragraph symbol multiple times in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect options to automatically replace a word (such as “right_arrow” or “left_arrow”) with the corresponding symbol. 

How To Insert an Arrow Symbol on a Mac

First, find Emoji & Symbols under the Edit menu. Expand the window by clicking the top-right browser icon. From the left sidebar, select the arrow icon to reveal a large selection of arrows. Double-click the arrow symbol you want to use. You can also highlight and drag the symbol into your document. 

How To Insert the Arrow Symbol on a Mobile Device

Inserting an arrow symbol into a document or message is just as easy to do from the keyboard of an iOS or Android device.  

On an iPhone keyboard, open the emoji library designated by a smiling face. Type “arrow” into the search bar above or scroll until you reach the symbols section designated by a musical note, an ampersand, and a percentage symbol. 

The arrow symbols can be found on the numeric keyboard on Android devices. Once you’ve switched to the numbers and symbols keyboard, hold down the caret (^) symbol to reveal several options for arrow symbols.
